Awesome Quotes About Stuff

I always feel guilty identifying with quotes from creative people way more famous and successful than I will ever be. This profile of Pixar’s Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Toy Story), however, has some really fantastic ones. It follows Stanton as he tries to make the transition from animation to live action with John Carter of Mars:

[He distills] movies to one crisp sentence before making them. For “Finding Nemo,” it was “Fear denies a good father from being one,” and, for “Wall-E,” “Love conquers all programming.” 

“Try to get fired,” he wrote, as a corrective. “Don’t be concerned about box office, release dates, audience appeal, Pixar history stock prices, approval from others… It’s not about self-exploration—it’s not about me—it’s about making the best movie possible.” 

(The “of Mars,” by the way, was removed after Disney feared it would scare away women.)
